Camp Charity . . . a story of success
Do programs like Camp Charity really make a difference in teaching kids how to give back? At the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, we answer that question with a resounding yes.

Here's what the mother of two participants from our June 2010 session wrote. It doesn't get much better than this!
I wanted to follow up and share with you what Luke and Sarah have been doing since participating in Camp Charity! On their Community Service Commitment cards, they mentioned, particularly Luke, introducing a new kid holiday and mascot to help kids. Luke, with the help of his Grammy, designed and made a Candy Kangaroo costume. He also designed a coloring sheet with a Kangaroo mascot. He and Sarah shopped for markers and candy to have Candy Kangaroo deliver to kids! They put together 75 bags of goodies and delivered them to kids at Operation Breakthrough. Sarah told the kids about kangaroos and helped them jump like a kangaroo and Candy Kangaroo (Luke) gave out hugs and high fives! It was a great afternoon for everyone. They left stuffed kangaroos in the different classrooms for the kids to remember them by. Luke and Sarah would like to make this an annual event and want to expand it to hand out even more Candy Kangaroo goodies!
Not even torrential downpours could dampen the spirits of the nine bright young people who participated in the Camp Charity session on June 12. Hosted by the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, Camp Charity is one hot ticket for kids between the ages of 8 and 15 to learn the ropes of philanthropy. Whether a gift is $25, $25 million, or anything in between, it makes a difference!
